What does Controsand Mojave look like under water?

Mojave is a warm tan when dry and deepens to a rich orange-brown once wet, so judge it by the wet sample photo rather than the dry bag. That warmth is why UNS pairs it with Dragon Stone and driftwood. UNS also lists Mojave among the shades that slightly raise GH.

Extra-Fine 0.4–0.9 mm Grain

The finest Controsand grade, ideal for foregrounds and top layers, settling into a smooth bed that plants root into easily.

UNS Controsand Mojave Extra-Fine Sand: frequently asked questions

What grain size and colour is UNS Controsand Mojave?

Mojave is an extra-fine sand with a grain size of about 0.4–0.9 mm, in a mixture of warmer tan tones that turn orange-brown when wet.

Does Controsand Mojave affect water hardness?

Slightly. UNS notes on the Controsand packaging that Mojave, along with Tahoe, Santa Fe and Maui, slightly raises GH. For soft-water shrimp, Bora and Kona are the shades that are not on that list.

Which hardscape suits Controsand Mojave?

UNS recommends Mojave for natural scenes with Dragon Stone and driftwood, whose warm browns it matches. Mixing it with a pebble-grade Controsand such as Santa Fe adds a riverbed texture.

Is UNS Controsand Mojave available in South Africa?

Yes. Jungle Aquatics stocks UNS Controsand Mojave in 3 litre and 8 litre bags in South Africa. Check live stock and pricing on jungleaquatics.com, then collect from the Broadacres showroom in Fourways, Johannesburg.
